Mom's Vintage Crewel Embroidery Kit

While I was visiting home, one of my most favorite memories was digging through my mom's craft supplies. We went through all of her yarn, fabric, and odds and ends. I was fun to see fabric that I remembered from growing up. Once we stumbled on this Crewel Embroidery Kit that my mom started in the 70s before my brother and I were born, I knew that I had to finish it! Growing up, I'd seen this little kit hanging around, but this time I saw it through new's a vintage treasure! It's from 1974 and it would be so sentimental to be able to finish a project that my mom started before I was even born. :)

After discovering this treasure, we were looking through old photos, and we stumbled across a photo of my mom, sitting at a table working on this embroidery kit. So now I'm determined to finish this, I'll keep you updated on my process, I've done a little needlework, but never crewel embroidery. It will be fun to try!

Have you ever attempted to finished a unfinished project for your mom? Or found an old project that you'd like to restore?

DIY Quilted Name Tag

Last night was Portland Modern Quilt Guild, this year we decided to make quilted name tags to wear at each meeting. First, I looked all over the web for inspiration. I was strongly inspired by Fresh Lemons, and made mine similar to hers.
If you'd like to make your own, here is a peek into my own process:
I then layered it like a quilt. The top, batting, and a fabric. I quilted around the perimeter of the badge, then attached bias tape from Bolt as the binding.

To wear it, I sewed a pin back to the back of the badge. I really enjoyed this process, especially the embroidery! I haven't done much of it, I'm sure I'll be adding this to a few projects in the future.
I was inso much flattered as to be asked by two people if I did it on the machine or my hand. :) Thanks gals for making my day!
If you haven't checked out PMQG - do it! When I'm not blogging here, I'm blogging over there along with Petra about all things quilting and PMQG. I'm so thankful to be on the board this year and making so many great new friends.
